Faith-based 12-step program expands

Calvary Community Church will host "City Lights," a new "Celebrate Recovery" event designed to reach out to churches and groups within a 30-mile radius of the local "Celebrate Recovery" program.

"City Lights" will be presented from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., April 23 at the church, 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village.

"City Lights" will feature experts from Saddleback Church in Lake Forest and from Calvary who will share their experiences in the recovery program and describe how other churches can implement this program into their ministries.

"Celebrate Recovery" uses eight biblically founded recovery principles while incorporating the classic 12-step program used in addiction recovery. It has been highlighted in the New York Times and has gained popularity in churches throughout the country as a faith-based alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Cost to attend this event is $10 per person and advance reservations are required by calling the church at (818) 991-8040, ext. 337.
