Agoura Animal Shelter to offer amnesty period to dog owners
Thousand Oaks residents who voluntarily purchase dog licenses and update delinquent dog licenses by Sat., May 14 at the Agoura Animal Shelter, 29525 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills will have all late fees waived during this Penalty Waiver Program.
After May 14, field officers will charge $20 late fees for all dogs not currently licensed.
Dogs are required by law to be vaccinated against rabies and licensed at the age of four months. Licensed dogs can be reunited quickly with their owners when rescued by shelter staff. Licensing also protects dogs who panic during natural disasters and run from their homes.
Annual license fees are $30 for an unaltered dog, $10 for an altered dog, $5 for an altered dog owned by a person age 60 and older. Owners must bring rabies vaccination records, spay/neuter records if applicable, and if applying for a senior citizen discount, must furnish proof of owner’s age.
The shelter is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday with extended hours until 7 p.m. Wednesday. For more information, call (818) 991-0071.
