Scouts to celebrate achievements, learn how to master challenges From Fri. through Sun., April 15 through 17, all Scout troops and Webelos dens are invited to the 2005 Las Colinas District Camporee. Last year, nearly 400 scouts representing more than 50 patrol units from all areas of the San Fernando Valley as well as from Agoura Hills to Thousand Oaks participated in 22 different events. This year’s theme is "Today’s Challenges, Tomorrow’s Achievements." Among the activities will be a three-dimensional maze, log rolling, bridge building and a compass course posing challenges for this year’s patrols. This year there will be an open challenge to all Scouting unit leaders as they’re invited to participate in the "Adult Leader Competition." The events are designed to determine the adult "Super Leader," the "Wood Carving Maestro" and the "Camporee Master Chef." Families interested in Scouting who would like to see firsthand how the program helps youth develop life skills while having fun are invited to a tour of the events while in progress. The tour begins at 10 a.m. For location and any additional information, call Steve Andress at (818) 348-1938 or co-chair Doug Lyon at (818) 707-1152. |
