Museum features landscape artist

Oil paintings by Santa Paula native Gail Pidduck will be featured at the Ventura County Museum of History & Art through Feb. 20.

"Harvest: The Rural Landscape of Gail Pidduck" will bring together some of her finest paintings created over the past 15 years.

The retrospective exhibit includes 48 paintings borrowed from 36 private collectors as well as new, never before exhibited work in which Ventura County farmworkers are a focus.

"Gail paints the cool fog of the Oxnard plain and the warm haze of the Santa Clara Valley, the crisp light of fall and the delicate colors of spring. She has a truly remarkable ability to paint the qualities that make Ventura County unique," said Anne Graumlich, the museum’s curator.

The museum will host an artists’ symposium titled "How Does an Artist Grow?" on Jan. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. Guests can meet the artists who inspired Pidduck as teachers, mentors and friends.

Each artist will show examples of his or her own work in the museum courtyard during the event. Cost ranges from $5 to $10. RSVP to (805) 653-0323, ext. 10.

The museum is at 100 E. Main St., in downtown Ventura. For additional information and directions, visit www.venturamuseum.org.
