Tips for grandparents who raise grandchildren

A series of free workshops that trains those grandparents and other relatives who are parenting their grandchildren on a full- or part-time basis will be presented from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays, April 17 and 24 and May 1, 8, 15 and 22 in the Sage Room at Goebel Senior Adult Center, 1385 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks.

The workshop series is titled "ROOTS" and stands for Relatives Offering Ongoing Ties and Support. Workshops will address the challenges of so-called kinship or relative care, including: changes in routine and lifestyle, financial struggles, legal issues, permanency, guardianship, adoption issues, changes in family relationships, feelings of isolation, grief or anger.

Registration for the series is required by Wed., April 14 and may be made by calling Carol Howell at (805) 378-1400, ext. 1891. Childcare during the workshops is available free upon request.

The program is sponsored by Moorpark College Foster and Kinship Care Education Program.
