CSUN to host out of this world event California State University-Northridge will host a free family event, "Plants, Planets and Picnic," at 5 p.m. Sat., Oct. 4, which will get underway with a picnic by the koi pond of the botanic garden on the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge. Families are invited to bring their own picnics, blanket or lawn chairs. Water and soft drinks will be provided. Following the picnic, guests will be invited to take a tour of the botanic garden, which features two acres of plants from all over the world. Docents will lead tours and answer questions. The next stop after the garden tour will be a visit to the campus’ planetarium for an exploration of "the celestial wonders" of the autumn sky. Guests will have an opportunity to view the fall constellations and planets and the most recent Hubble photos and more. The evening will conclude with telescope viewing and instruction by experts (pending clear skies). Planetarium seating is limited.
