Tony Award winning musical comes to T.O.

The Musical Theatre Guild and the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Foundation will present the California premiere of the 1999 Tony Award winner for best score and book, "Parade," at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sun., Sept. 21 in the Scherr Forum Theatre at the Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.

Written by playwright Alfred Uhry of "Driving Miss Daisy" fame, "Parade" is set in 1913 and tells the tragic, true story of Leo Frank, a Brooklyn-born Jew living in Georgia who is put on trial for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employ. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor’s false testimony seal his fate. Frank’s only defenders are a governor with a conscience and eventually his assimilated Southern wife who finds the strength and love to become his greatest champion.

Starring as Leo and Lucille Frank are Broadway and national tour veterans Ira Denmark and Kim Huber.

Tickets are $38 and available at the Civic Arts Plaza box office; reach them at (805) 449-2787.
