Robinson will run for state Assembly seat
The California 37th Assembly District seat will soon be available and Republican candidate Mike Robinson, 27, of Thousand Oaks, currently a district representative for State Senator Tom McClintock for two years said his interests lie with the taxpayers. Republican State Assemblyman Tony Strickland of Moorpark will vacate his seat next year due to term limits. Leading republicans have already started work on the race to fill Strickland’s seat. Robinson said he’s the best candidate for the job because he sees a real need for strong, conservative leadership in the state and in the district, which includes Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Camarillo, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Ojai and those portions of Simi Valley south of Royal Avenue, and he will provide that leadership. "As a district representative for Senator Tom McClintock, I witnessed the best that government can be. I also had the opportunity to observe it at its worst," Robinson said. "I decided to run for office because I became tired of seeing the average citizen of California pay for the mistakes of their own government. Whether it was the energy crisis, the massive budget deficit or the countless ways (the government attempts) to interfere in our everyday lives with taxes and over-regulation, it was always the people who paid the high price of government mismanagement. "I have seen, firsthand, that one person can make a difference in improving the quality of life within their community and I will always fight for the values of the people of the 37th Assembly District," Robinson said. In addition to his work with McClintock, Robinson has served as the president of the Ventura County Republican Assembly, a conservative grassroots organization, for 18 months. "Under my stewardship," Robinson said, "the VCRA has grown from 57 to 119 members and become the leading local organization in the effort fighting further tax increases and tripling of the car tax." Robinson also serves as Ventura County co-chair of the Governor Gray Davis Recall Effort, an organization that has been the leader in signature collection with over 10,000 names collected already, he said. Robinson’s efforts to recall Davis goes along with his work as a candidate in the race to the state assembly seat of the 37th District. He wants to keep taxes from rising and boost the economy, something he said Davis isn’t doing. "Tax relief for hard working California families will be my top priority when elected to the state assembly," Robinson said. "I look forward to joining my GOP (Grand Old Party) colleagues in the fight against the liberal tax-and-spenders who wish to raise taxes and overcome the budget deficit they created through wasteful spending and mismanagement." One of Robinson’s solutions for helping the economy is helping small businesses. "Small businesses are the key to economic growth and job growth in the state," Robinson said. He said he is very concerned with the worker’s compensation crisis facing workers and employers. Skyrocketing worker’s compensation rates have already driven hundreds of employers out of California and with them thousands of jobs, Robinson said. He added, "The Wall Street Journal rated California the worst business climate in America." Robinson said the worker’s compensation crisis plays a large part in the anti-business atmosphere. "I am extremely encouraged by the support I have received from local elected officials and other community leaders," Robinson said. "To name a few, I have been endorsed by Senator Tom McClintock, former assemblywoman Paula Boland and former Ventura County District Attorney Michael Bradbury."
