Folk music festival is coming There’s something for every member of the family at the Summer Solstice Festival running from Fri.-Sun., June 20-22 on the campus of Soka University, 26800 W. Mulholland Hwy., Calabasas. The 21st annual event is a presentation of the California Traditional Music Society. The festival will have a choice of several performance stages featuring some of the best-known folk musicians in the U.S. There will be Andean, Hawaiian, Klezmer, Cape Breton, Quebecois, Irish, Scottish, Greek, Appalachian Old Tyme music and more. Among the many ongoing events will be instrument workshops, jam sessions, stoytelling, children’s area and activities, three dance areas,, instrument sales, a crafts fair and food booths. There will be 300 participatory activities. Festival hours are 7:30-10:30 p.m. Friday; 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Sat.-Sun.; and 7-10:30 p.m. Saturday. Opening night features a traditional contradance and storytelling even with many tellers; admission is $10. Jam sessions are free. Admission for Saturday-Sunday events is $25 per day; $15 admission fee for the Saturday evening concert. Children 12 years and under will be admitted free with an adult. There is a daily parking fee of $5.
