Theatricum Botanicum offers youth drama camps

The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum will offer a series of drama camps for youth this summer including the following. They are at 1419 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd., Topanga and may be reached for more information at (310) 455-2322.

Young People’s Drama Camp for ages 5-7 is presented Mondays and Fridays, June 23-July 25 and offers theater games, storytelling, song and dance, crafts and an introduction to Shakespeare and Commedia Dell’Arte. After camp day care is available.

Youth Drama Day Camp for ages 8-14 runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. three days per week, June 24-July 24, and offers classical theatre techniques including singing, fencing, period dance and movement, improvisation, stage combat, ensemble/mask work, voice and speech, acting Shakespeare and more.

High School Shakespeare Seminar, designed specifically for high school students, runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, July 14-Aug. 15, with a final performance on Sat., Aug. 16.

Participants will learn acting techniques useful for performing Shakespeare and other texts. Classes are taught by top local Shakespearean actors who will work to help the students create a sense of ensemble as they prepare for their final performance.
