     After finishing second in the 1600-meter race, Daniella Padilla, a Westlake High School senior, came back strong to win the 800 meters at the Marmonte League championships at Royal High School in Simi Valley last Friday.

     Westlake’s Kenneth Mackins, who’ll play football and run track at Portland State next year, took first place in the 100-meter race to capture his second straight Marmonte League championship at that distance last Friday at the Marmonte League track championships at Royal High School in Simi Valley.

     The Newbury Park track teams, boys and girls, didn’t contend for a Marmonte league title this spring, but head coaches Marty Maciel, who is in his fourth year as head coach, and Steve Svoboda, who is in his first year as co-head coach, are optimistic about the team’s future.
