CLU hosts Amgen Summer Science Institute for teachers

Applications are currently being accepted for the Amgen Summer Science Institute at California Lutheran University, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. The program, which includes stipends, is geared to middle and high school science teachers to improve science education in their classrooms.

The Amgen Foundation provided $135,000 for the Institute to be held for the second consecutive year on the CLU campus. Amgen, headquartered in Thousand Oaks, is a global biotechnology company.

The institute will consist of four individual science workshops, each a week in length. Workshops will include physical science, marine science, essentials in modern life science and earth science.

Each participant will receive a total of $1,000 including a personal stipend of $500, $300 to purchase science supplies for their schools and another $200 for attending a follow-up workshop.
