Relay for Life is this weekend

The American Cancer Society (ACS) Greater Conejo Valley Unit will present a Relay for Life event from 10 a.m. Sat., May 17 through 10 a.m.. Sun., May 18 at Agoura High School’s stadium, 28545 Driver Ave., Agoura Hills. This is the first time the ACS’s annual signature fundraising event will be held in the Agoura Hills/Oak Park area. Participants will walk or run in shifts around the track in a 24-hour relay to help raise awareness and funds for research in the fight against cancer.

Participants may "camp out" at the site and there will be family-oriented entertainment with scavenger hunts, children’s activities, movies until dawn and educational booths.

All cancer survivors are invited to participate in the Celebration Lap at the 10 a.m. opening ceremony.

Incentive prizes will be offered. A registration fee of $15 is required from each participant along with a minimum of $100 in donations. Teams from the corporate sector, schools, clubs, community organizations and families are invited to collect donations for their Relay efforts, and donations from non-participants are also welcomed.

Proceeds from Relay for Life support cancer research, patient services and educational programs.

Luminaria (white paper bags lit up by a candle with dedications inscribed on them) will be lit around the track. These may be purchased for $7 each or four for $25. There will be a luminaria candle lighting ceremony at 8 p.m. Saturday honoring cancer survivors and remembering those who lost their battle with the disease.
