National Nurses Week at Los Robles Medical Center

LISA ADAMS/T.O.A. CELEBRATING OUR NURSES-Nurses Susan Mayberry, left, and Teri Smith stand in front of an American Flag quilt assembled by Mayberry with pictures taken by Smith. The quilt is on display at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in commemoration of National Nurses Week, May 6-12.

"Nurses…Our Everyday Heroes" was the theme adopted this year by the nursing department at Los Robles Regional Medical Center to celebrate National Nurses Week, May 6 – 12, 2003.

The theme centered on the heroic efforts the center’s 514 registered nurses perform everyday for each of their patients.

At a special hospital-sponsored luncheon, each nursing department celebrated their respective registered nurses by creating patriotic pictorial displays.

The designs included a hand-quilted version of the American flag with photographs of each nurse from the third floor north nursing department. Nurse Teri Smith photographed staff members going about their appointed duties and then nurse Susan Mayberry spent two days constructing an American Flag quilt that she embedded Smith’s pictures into the quilt’s white stars and the red stripes.

In addition to the luncheon, the hospital recognized its nurses with celebrations at complimentary breakfasts, dinners and personal and professional boutiques.

Prizes were awarded throughout the week through random drawings, and desserts and refreshments were continuously made available.
