Red, White & Blue Ball to honor Frank Schillo The Conejo Valley Chapter Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) will present their 18th annual Red, White & Blue Ball on Sat., June 7 at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza Hotel, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village. Each year the patriotic nonpartisan organization recognizes one of the uniformed services and this year the U.S. Navy was selected. The theme is "USS Ronald Reagan CVN 76 Joins the Fleet." Each year the Conejo Valley Chapter of MOWW honors an individual from the local community as "Patriotic Citizen of the Year." Former Ventura County Supervisor Frank Schillo has been selected for the honor, and will receive the Silver Patrick Henry Medallion, the highest award a chapter of MOWW can present to recognize patriotic achievement, during the Ball. During his long career in public service, Schillo has served as a Thousand Oaks City Councilman and as the city’s Mayor in addition to two terms as supervisor. He moved to Ventura County in 1971 and "is being recognized for his patriotism and love of country as exemplified by his many initiatives and innovations for the benefit of his fellow citizens, his extensive voluntary charitable activities, and his efforts to improve the quality of life in Ventura County," according to the Conejo Valley Chapter of MOWW. The formal evening features ceremonies, dinner and dancing plus a silent auction. Proceeds from the auction support Conejo Valley Chapter-sponsored activities. Cost to attend is $75 per person, $150 per couple, $750 for a table of 10. For reservations, call (805) 495-6962. The event is open to military, active, reserve and retired and the public. |
