CVD parade to get fly over

The AT-6

The annual Conejo Valley Day’s Parade will be extra special this year when four World War II AT-6 trainers do a flyover of the Thousand Oaks Boulevard parade route Saturday morning.

Led by Gary Barber of the United States Commemorative Air Force out of Camarillo, the planes will make a flyover at approximately 9:15 a.m. They will then return and make another pass using the "Missing Man" formation in honor of those service people who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

The type of aircraft was used to train 100,000 U.S. Army and Navy pilots between 1941 and 1956. While more than 15,000 were constructed, only about 350 remain in airworthy condition.

Paul Sherman of the Thousand Oaks Kiwanis Club, parade chairman, says that more than 100 entries have signed up for the one-and-a-half mile march down the boulevard between Hampshire to Erbes roads.

"We have over 10 first-class bands in the parade," Sherman said. "Also, lots of antique cars, equestrian groups, local service organizations and youth groups, dignitaries and lots of novelty floats."
