New partnership increases emergency preparedness The California Safe CoRPS (Communities Ready and Prepared through Service), a statewide initiative to educate communities on emergency preparedness, train volunteers in homeland security and emergency response, and support disaster relief organizations in their efforts, was recently launched. The program is a partnership between the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, California Conservation Corps (CCC) and Volunteer Center of Silicon Valley. Four members of the 24-person California Safe CoRPS (CSC) team will directly serve the Los Angeles community through the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles. These CSC members will provide disaster education to empower Los Angeles residents, volunteer recruitment and management, with a focus on developing a youth volunteer program and support outreach and emergency service delivery efforts, such as shelter operations and canteen service. The CSC members of the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles "serve to expand community resources, develop new contacts and bridge the gap between surrounding community agencies.
