Participants are needed

The public is invited to participate—via a chili recipe, classic car entry or vendor booth—in the Knights of Columbus, Simi Valley Council #5803’s 16th annual Chili Cook-Off & Car Show at 10 a.m. Sun., June 8 on the school grounds of St. Rose of Lima, 1305 Royal Ave., Simi Valley. The family-oriented event will feature food, music, entertainment and activities for all ages.

This is an official International Chili Society competition. The first place cook will have a chance to advance to the WCC semi-finals. Cash awards and trophies will be awarded to the top finishers.

The event will also feature a car show of classics, rods and customs. Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each of the 15 event categories.

Booth areas are available for arts and crafts vendors.

Event proceeds will assist the Knights of Columbus, Simi Valley Council #5803 in their charitable work. For more information, please call (805) 526-7960.

The Ventura County Astronomical Society will celebrate National Astronomy Day from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sat., May 10 at Sycamore Plaza (at the corner of Cochran and Sycamore) in Simi Valley.

The celebration will continue (weather permitting) at 8 p.m. in the Charles Temple Observatory at Moorpark College with a lecture and viewing through telescopes.
