Not the right way to go Recently it has been reported that the school district is considering spending $4.5 million dollars on a new middle school at Sycamore Canyon Elementary School. The school board expects this school to provide for 300 students in the future. The school board hopes that this will relieve the overcrowding at Sequoia Middle School, which is expected to reach 1,500 students. During the meeting, the board discussed keeping all middle schools at 1,000 students. This math does not make sense. If the board really wants to relieve the overcrowding they will build a middle school which will bring Sequoia down to 1,000 students. The community desperately needs an additional middle school, but this plan doesn’t make sense. An additional school which will accommodate 1,000 students would help the overcrowding and build for the future of the community, but if this is not possible, maybe the $4.5 million dollars could be better used to expand Sequoia Middle School and Newbury Park High School, which will soon be overcrowded with the additional students from Sycamore Canyon.
