I’ve got my eye on the slate There are two points of significant concern about "the slate," besides being a slate. First, the slates’ support the defense of Bob Wilson, running for the two year seat vacated by their controller Linda Parks. It appears unimportant to the slate that Bob Wilson is one of the most prolific Thousand Oaks City code violators on file, only correcting violations when threatened with criminal misdemeanor charges. Bob Wilson’s Cisco’s Restaurant has a 15-year-record of city code violations, fire code violations and disabled access violations. Not to mention Wilson’s Cisco’s Restaurant, has been a repetitive violator of health codes including poor food handling practices, and at least one case of Salmonella poisoning of a diner at Cisco’s Restaurant. Second, the slate’s continued use of the term "Slow Growth" when attacking the council incumbents. Due to the advanced stage of our city’s growth and the fact that we are nearing "build out," this is a scare tactic used in past campaigns by Parks’ slates. The incumbents respectfully use the term to illustrate their voting record and site accomplishments for past actions as legislators. Simply put, the slate has no real issues to run on, and cling to this nameplate without a record. The slates effort to cut the legs from under proven leaders like the council incumbents will not make the slate taller or their non-issues more relevant. The slate is clearly not capable of choosing honest running mates and evidently does not care about public safety, the city’s laws, public health or the needs of the physically challenged. How could anyone in good conscience let them run or ruin our city? William Darling Thousand Oaks |
