Thousand Oaks Acorn begins a voluntary subscription program

In today’s Acorn, readers will find a pre-addressed envelope. Don’t throw it away because on page 13 is a form to fill out for a voluntary subscription to the Acorn. Just complete and return it in that pre-addressed envelope and we’ll provide you with uninterrupted service for a full 12 months. The offer, limited to residents who currently reside inside existing delivery areas, is only $15 per year.

Or you can check the box that says you don’t want to pay to have the Acorn delivered and your hometown paper will continue to show up every Thursday morning just as it has for the last four years. Further, if you don’t want the paper anymore, you can check that box on the form, send it back, and we’ll discontinue delivery if that’s your wish. Maybe you could take a second to use the form to tell us what we’re doing wrong so that we can enhance our service to further fulfill what you’d like to demand of your neighborhood newspaper.

If you can continue to receive the Acorn without paying a $15 voluntary fee, why pay it?

Because this subscription drive isn’t about the company making a lot more money, it’s a part of the Acorn’s continuing commitment to be a good community neighbor. A full 40 percent of monies collected through the drive will go directly into the coffers of a highly respected local charity. The rest will defray additional delivery costs and overhead, but together, through this fundraising effort, we can help hundreds of folks that really need support.

Your dollars will go to help fund the good works of Hospice of the Conejo. For those that don’t know, Hospice of the Conejo is comprised of a team of caring people dedicated to providing compassionate care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and to their families. The focus is on living: helping people during the final stages of life to make the most of each and every hour.

Trained volunteers provide care and emotional and social support, continuing that support for as much as six weeks after the loss of a loved one.

Hospice is available to anyone with a terminal disease and limited-life expectancy, and if needed, all services are completely free. The group accepts patients on chemotherapy and radiation; families not coping with illness and children needing special support. The group reaches out to residents from Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Newbury Park, and the outlying areas of Moorpark and Simi Valley.

Donations provide an extremely significant part of the support hospice receives for its services. Your dollars will help enable the organization to continue to enhance the quality of life for each of its patients, and to support families throughout their bereavements.

That sounds like a cause worth supporting to us here at the Acorn. This subscription drive won’t bring Hospice a lot of dollars, but it will help. So please help us help.

Through your support of this voluntary subscription drive we can all work together to make sure those in need get the care they so richly deserve.

Every home that receives the Acorn should see the envelope included in today’s issue. If you didn’t receive one, please call (818) 706-0266 and one will be mailed to you.

If you’d like to learn more about Hospice, the organization is sponsoring a community memorial service for anyone who has lost a loved one at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 588 Camino Manzanas, Thousand Oaks. If you’d like more information, or wish to have your loved one’s name included in the Hospice remembrance book, call (805) 495-2145.
