Channel Island campus to host fest The public is invited to attend the 12th annual Media Arts Festival from Fri., Nov. 8-Sun., Nov. 10 on the campus of California State University-Channel Islands in Camarillo. CSU students submitted work in narrative film, animation, music video, experimental, documentary, TV short forms, TV programs, media in community service and new media. Juries of media industry professionals will select the winner in each category from the students’ submissions. Two of the events are free and open to the community at large. At 7 p.m. Fri.-Sat., Nov. 8-9, there will be screenings of the work of the student finalists. A wine and cheese reception will follow Saturday’s screenings and will include an awards presentation. The festival was created in 1990 to give talented students studying film, video and the new media within the 23-campus California State University system an opportunity to present their work for critical review. In 2000, the festival expanded its mission to include helping students bridge the gap between student and working professional. The Media Arts Festival now includes three days of events and seminars geared toward helping CSU students become better prepared to work in the entertainment and media industries.
