Cabrillo Music Theatre to present ‘MAME’
Ojai resident Amanda McBroom is performing the title role in the Cabrillo Music Theatre production of "MAME." The show, with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, follows Mame through American history as she lives on a diet of champagne and caviar in the 1920s. It depicts a hilarious account of her ineptitude at bread winning after the Depression wiped her out and her magnificent vivacity after her great recovery living by her motto: "Life is a banquet and most people starve to death!" The show opens at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 and runs through Nov. 10. Curtain goes up at 8 p.m. for evening performances, and at 2 p.m. for Saturday and Sunday matinees. Tickets are $32/$24/$16 for Thursday evening and the Saturday matinee. For all other performances, tickets are priced at $40/$32/$18, and may be purchased at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza box office, or by calling TicketMaster at (805) 583-8700. McBroom has acted on television and the stage, written numerous songs for recording artists, television and film, recorded nine albums, started her own recording label, appeared live in concert on both coasts and internationally and written, produced and starred in her own musical. Her song writing successes include the number one hit "The Rose," recorded by Bette Midler for the film of the same name. Other songs have been recorded by Leanne Rhymes, The Manhattan Transfer, Anne Murray, Barry Manilow, Judy Collins, Barbara Cook and Stephanie Mills. Amanda lives in Ojai with her husband, two dogs and three cats. She attributes her success to divine inspiration and a lot of caffeine. |
