Learn about Backbone Trail Author and hiker Milt McAuley, whose guidebooks to hiking and wildflower identification in the Santa Monica Mountains are considered "bibles" by many outdoor enthusiasts, will present a lecture, "Hiking the Backbone Trail," from 2-4 p.m. Sat., Nov. 9 at the National Park Service Visitor Center, 401 W. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks. McAuley will share his slides, experiences and this year’s schedule for November day hikes on the Backbone Trail. This lecture is an opportunity to see portions of the Backbone Trail on film and then as McAuley invites, to "indulge yourself by going out on the trail for an adventure. To savor the spell that the mountains cast upon you and return home at the end of the day with an aching body but a rested soul." Admission is free. For directions or more information on this or upcoming presentations in the National Park Service’s ongoing lecture series, please call (805) 370-2301. |
